ISA YACHTMASTER COASTAL/OFFSHORE (SHORE-BASED)

The fundamental principles of navigation and optimised use of electronic navigation aids for offshore sailors. The course covers chartwork, collision regulations, weather, buoyage, safety, communications and passage planning. 45 hours of instruction, written assessments, ISA attendance certificate.  Fully accredited and course materials provided by the ISA.

SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE (SRC) FOR VHF OPERATORS

Full VHF operator certificate (SRC modules 1 and 2), including use of VHF-DSC, EPIRB, SART. Suitable for offshore up to 30 miles from the coast and inland waterways. 10 hours of hands-on instruction followed by exam

VHF CERTIFICATE (SRC 1) FOR SMALL BOATS

Entry level VHF operator certificate (SRC module 1 only), including use of VHF and PLB. Suitable for inshore use, including currachs, kayaks, jetskis and tow-in surfers. 6 hours of hands-on instruction followed by exam

SATELLITE COMMUNICATIONS

GEO and LEO orbits. Selection and use of satellite systems for voice and data communications offshore. Hands-on instruction with Inmarsat C, mini-M, Orbcomm and Thuraya.

LONG RANGE CERTIFICATE

The full Department of Transport approved Long Range Certificate, including the use of MF/HF (SSB) equipment and GMDSS procedures, as well as satellite communications. Suitable for offshore and trans-oceanic passages.
 

ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION

GPS theory and practice. Hands-on instruction in use of chart plotters and electronic navigation systems. On-line sources of navigation information including weather forecasts and ocean routing. AIS transponders. Galileo.
